An Epigram About Lycophron’s Alexandra (Anth. Pal. IX 191)
Simon Hornblower
Emilia Żybert
Abstract
This article discusses an anonymous epigram whose subject is Lycophron’s Alexandra, and which improves on other such ‘literary’ epigrams by the extent to which it plays with its subject’s recondite language and manner. It displays awareness of other Hellenistic poems also. Suggested date: late Hellenistic/early Imperial, the time of Crinagoras.
