Per la Storia del Testo di Erodoto e di Quello di Tucidide Nell’antichità. Parte Prima: Le Testimonianze dei Papiri
Benedetto Bravo
Abstract
Most of the Herodotean and Thucydidean papyri date from the second or third century AD. They usually have a text that substantially agrees with that of the whole mediaeval manuscript tradition of these authors or of one or another of its branches. There are however exceptions. A few papyri both of Herodotus and Thucydides have a text that is significantly different from, and better than, that of any of our mediaeval manuscripts. It appears that in the second century AD at least two versions both of Herodotus and Thucydides circulated in Egypt – one genuine, the other heavily interpolated. It is the latter that was continued by the mediaeval tradition.
